Update: Happy New Year everyone! After
two long, hard years, my new CD entitled "Nothing
Trendy" is finally complete. I think it is a
great improvement over the first. Please check it
out at cdbaby.com
for samples of all the songs. There's some really
cool stuff here. Cheers!

Update: Hi.
I decided to update this site for the first
time in a long time. I think I'm going to remove
all references to corporate greed and conformity.
If you don't already get it, there's nothing I can do to
help you.
OK.
Out on the west coast working on the 2nd CD. I
think it will be mostly instrumentals with at least 1
vocal song. I have a lot of ideas to explore with
instrumentals so I don't want to get bogged down
worrying about lyrics. To me, art is the
greatest pursuit a human being can undertake as an
expression of their unique identity with the most
potential to inspire others. This is not
to denigrate any other pursuit or profession - doctors,
financiers, computer professionals, builders, teachers,
lawyers, janitors, merchants - these are all good
and important professions. By the way, notice I
didn't include politicians in there. Easily the
most horrible and unnecessary job ever invented.
If you want to be a politician, you aspire to
be in control over other people for really no good
reason except to stroke your own ego. Absolutely
the lowest and most dangerous human pursuit on the
planet. Now
getting back to the HIGHEST possible pursuit for a human
life - creation in the form of art. Every
other job or pursuit exists for a support role or for entertainment. Art exists for itself, for
no other reason than to say "I am creating
something beautiful because it is beautiful" thus
giving some meaning to life. Now
some may disagree with me here and I fully respect their
arguments but I would say music is the highest of all art
forms. Paintings can be looked at and studied,
movies can be watched and debated, literature can be
read and digested intellectually but music remains the
most mysterious, ethereal and least tangible.
Your
eyes are not involved and there is nothing to grasp. Notes,
chords, sounds all pass through you and disappear
leaving you feeling what came before and wondering what's next.
You
need some form of developed intellect to comprehend the other art
forms but you only need a soul and functioning ears to
experience music. A newborn child can have the
same visceral response as an adult. Music can
physically affect your body and act like a drug thus
making it a very powerful and universally understood
medium. It's a forceful anchor to past
events. Its power is in its
directness. Its potential is in its
mystery. If aliens visited the planet (ok, stop
laughing), they would understand at least two
things: music and mathematics. If respected properly,
music creation is the most sacred of all human
pursuits. Anyway, that's what I'm trying to do.
It's also the hardest thing to get paid for. Cheers. Marc
